COSMETIC SURGERY: NOSE SURGERY

Undergo surgery of the nose is an adventure that is not undertaken lightly, especially when it is only referred to aesthetics . How to choose a surgeon? What happens during the initial consultation? Is there a cooling off period legal? Who and what should we be suspicious?

ENT or plastic surgeon?

The operation referred to the nose aesthetics , or rhinoplasty, is practiced mostly in private because it is not supported by Social Security. It is most often the domain of surgeons, plastic surgeons. ENTs are more concerned when the operation of the nose should be done because of difficulty breathing. ENT services then have all the equipment (CT, MRI, equipment to take stock of the airways and obstruction, etc..) To thoroughly explore the problem and determine if the operation is necessary or not. Indeed, sometimes it is better suited medical treatment that intervention surgery which does not give the expected results. But plastic surgeon or ENT, what matters most is the experience of surgeon . Returning to the intervention purely aesthetic , the establishment where it takes place must be approved for surgery aesthetics , according to a law dating from July 2005 but will only apply from July 2007. This approval is granted for certain health standards (equipment, recovery room?). It can be certain that only surgeons can operate and that we do not end up in the hands of an incompetent doctor working in poor conditions.

Consultation, estimate and time

Before any intervention, a minimum of two consultations is essential. They permit the construction of medical photographs, to study with the surgeon and discuss. The surgeon must show the candidate for intervention design that can define and shape of the nose to be chosen, one that is both feasible and satisfactory. It must also make an estimate, provide clear information and give a reflection period of at least 15 days. This period of reflection is a legal requirement. In most cases, the surgeon asks his future made to sign a consent proving that the information provided about the intervention have been issued (risks of anesthesia, the intervention?).

Some advice

• If a surgeon has to operate in a hurry, without time for reflection, turn the heels.
• If a surgeon has to hide the act of surgery aesthetics by an act refundable, beware. This is a practice totally banned and this puts into question the honesty of the doctor. It's always a bad sign.
• Do not hesitate to ask the surgeon to show you pictures of what he has already done.
• If you feel confident, a good sign. But if you have any doubts, take another view, from a fellow graduate.
• Word-of-mouth is a value very safe surgical aesthetic . If you know someone who has had surgery and is very happy, it's an excellent indication.
• Attention to advertising. It is prohibited by the surgeons as establishments. Beware also the websites that are only window displays.All advertising approaches are wrong and followed by the repression of fraud. If institutions are advertising is that they have problems recruiting patients, as word of mouth does not work because the old surgery are not satisfied. Cosmetic surgery is not an emergency. Take a little time to be sure to make the right choice is worth it.
