PREVENTING CATARACT SUNGLASSES AND CONS STATIN CHOLESTEROL!

It is now well established that the wearing of sunglasses protects against cataracts . Other factors are less known and equally effective: do not smoke and take statins against the cholesterol?

The sun's daily assault on the eyes over time causes a clouding of the lens: thecataract . To defend themselves, two solutions: the sunglasses to protect themselves and antioxidants (including vitamins) to repair the damage of UV rays. Concretely this means that it is important to always carry sunglasses in summer (and also when we take the road) and to eat every day fruits and vegetables for vitamins.

Cataract prevention: When should cholesterol may be a chance!

Alternative for those who have "lucky" to be treated for excess cholesterol , take their daily statin drugs that lower the rate of cholesterol in the blood. A recent study has shown that decreased their risk of cataracts by 45% after 5 years of follow-up. How to explain a significant fall? Statins have many protective properties including being anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant to be. Thus they do not limit their beneficial effect in the heart (which excess cholesterol is the major risk), but they also protect other diseases, including Alzheimer's, cancer and? the cataract .

Cons cataract station smoking!

The study showed that this positive effect of statins on the eyes gives us information equally interesting in those taking statins against the cholesteroland not smoking, the risk of a cataract was total decreased by 60% ! This illustrates once again the negative role of tobacco in all diseases of aging and the importance of not smoking?

Observe once again that good prevention habits start early: eat fruits and vegetables, not smoking, wearing sunglasses? There is no age to start!

Also note that it is never too late to start. Five years of treatment were sufficient to find significant differences between those who took statins and those who did not. It was the same among those who smoked and those who do not smoke. In other words, it is very important to screen regularly risk factors with their physician ( cholesterol , blood sugar, etc..) and be treated regardless of age. As for tobacco, there is no age to stop?
