LOSS OF VOICE: I LOST MY VOICE!

Banal and benign, the loss of voice is classically due to inflammation of the larynx or laryngitis. What are the usual circumstances that are losing votes and how to treat a loss of voice ?

When the vocal cords are affected, the voice goes

We have two vocal cords located in our larynx. These are their vibrations that create sounds. If one vocal cord is injured, our voice disappears. At a trivial loss of voice, frequent in winter, the vocal cords do vibrate more or evil due to inflammation of the larynx (laryngitis) .
I cough and I have lost my voice
Coughing due to colds eg vocal cords are abused, they collide. Thus a repetitive cough can swell, changing the sounds. Result, your voice changes and sometimes resembles what is called a banal laryngitis.

I too sang or cried too

If you are applying to excess your vocal cords, they get tired and become the subject of inflammation. This applies, for example after shouting at full voice during a demonstration or to be heard in a nightclub, or after singing for hours. The vocal cords were then struggling to vibrate and the sounds are changed, or very attenuated. At the extreme, you become speechless.
And if it was serious?
- Do not panic, the loss of voice is a phenomenon that is rapidly disappearing Benin, usually in 24 to 48 hours or a few days.
- In all cases, a simple loss of voice that lasts more than a week to get them to consult an audiologist. This advice also applies in case of voice bitonal (two-tone) or ear pain associated.
- Last but not least, if the laryngitis is associated with difficulty breathing, this can be serious. It should quickly consult an ENT, and especially if a child because his larynx is not yet strong enough to resist inflammation. The risk is that the loss of voice reflects a subglottic laryngitis, or even a epiglottitis (inflammation of the epiglottis), a rare but serious.

What if a simple loss of voice?

- Put your vocal cords at rest, it is an imperative. And do not force yourself to murmur because the cold air enters through the mouth aggravates the situation.
- Gargle with warm water and honey rosemary or thyme several times a day, or with water and salt.
- Make inhalations of eucalyptus or thyme.
- Wet your room.
- Against the inflammation you can take anti-inflammatories (eg ibuprofen).
Can we prevent the loss of voice?
- On the outside, always remember to breathe through your nose. In this way, the inspired air passes through the nose is filtered and heated, which reduces the risk of ignition.
- If you plan to sing, shout or make a long speech, avoid the night before and the day dairy, which tend to pasting the vocal cords.
- Chew a bit of fresh ginger and drink lemon water. Caution, do not drink cold but at room temperature.

Why was the voice hoarse in the morning?

In the morning the vocal chords are relaxed. They are also more or less swollen because of possible snoring, nocturnal breathing through a mouth if the nose is a bit congested, or even a cough. Finally, they may be covered by mucus nasal discharge. Result, on awakening, the voice is more serious, until the vocal cords can be cleaned with the first vibration and they resume their normal shape.
