Our homes are loaded with allergens. Limit the impact of adopting the right moves, products and equipment.

Limit Allergies

Allergies in the home may well be caused by your furniture, your plants, your household goods, your flooring ... than the air you breathe. Because it is often more polluted than outside breathe (See Guide to indoor air pollution ).

Most allergies are occurring in the home caused by:

- Dust;
- Mites (small microscopic creatures that thrive particularly in warm and confined).

In general, it is preferable:

- To air the room at least 15 minutes per day ;
- Do not block the vents and cleaned regularly;
- To limit the temperature to 20 degrees maximum;
- Remove the carpet or rug in favor of smooth floors and easily washable;
- Avoid the curtains or drapes and upholstery fabrics;
- Vacuuming regularly in all parts, but also the bedding, sofas, curtains;
- To eliminate all the nests of dust (up to the most hidden corners).

In addition to these precautions, you can use cleaning products, or clean air, which can be allergens.

Natural Cleaning Products

Choose cleaners bit aggressive and non-polluting. Opt for example:

- For green cleaning products ;
- Of everyday products (white vinegar or lemon, for example).

However, limit the use:

- Aerosols (especially if you have asthma);
- Essential oils (they are natural, but can often be particularly allergens).

Air Purifiers

Air purifiers remove most pollutants and allergens (up to 99%). Prefer systems:

- Ionization
- And with HEPA (high efficiency particulate air).

Note : Put it in your room and use it mostly at night.

The air humidifiers

They help regulate the humidity of your home. Choose it:

- With a hygrometer (which controls the moisture);
- A filter that cleans the sprinkler system.

To dehumidify, good ventilation is sufficient in most cases . But if you live in a home very wet, install:

- A kit controlled mechanical ventilation to circulate air;
- A dryer (equipped with a charcoal filter to remove bacteria and odors).

Anti allergy bedding

To fight against the mites, know that it exists:

- The anti dust mite mattress ;
- Synthetic bedding (less prone to dust mites and less allergen than feather or down);
- Special covers to protect bedding.

In general, prefer synthetic bedding and wrap in mite proof covers.

Feel free to clean your mattress regularly.

Special vacuum cleaners

There are different types of vacuum cleaners to reduce allergy:

- Vacuum cleaners standard equipped with a HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) for use with bags anti allergy;
- Vacuum cleaners anti mite kill using ultraviolet and a vibration system;
- Vacuum cleaners that turn the water into mud and dust better at filtering out allergens.
