LIPOLYSIS: PANACEA AGAINST CELLULITE?

The lipolysis , a technique that relies on the injection of phosphatidylcholine , can destroy fat cells misplaced. Is it a magic bullet against cellulite saddlebags? No. Dr. Catherine Goursac * clear that this technique is only for localized fat areas like the inside of the knees, a small bead on the inner thighs, double chin, underarms? Explanations.

What is the principle? Dr. Catherine Goursac: It injects a cocktail of phosphatidylcholine and deoxycholate. The phosphatidylcholine is part of the membranes of all cells, including those of adipocytes (fat cells). So we need to add deoxycholate to break the cell membrane phosphatidylcholine and let dissolve the triglycerides found in adipocytes. Is this a new treatment? Dr. Catherine Goursac: The first publications date from 1962 / 1965. The lipolysiswas first used by Russians and Germans in intra-arterial injection to dissolve the plaques. Then it was much used by mouth to dissolve excess fat disease (fatty liver, primary biliary cirrhosis). Use of lipolysis for aesthetic purposes only started in 2001 with publication of Patricia Ritter, Brazil. Since then, numerous publications have focused on lipolysis and this theme is still widely discussed in Congress. Being used around the world, including North Americans, Latin Americans and Europeans, it quickly became necessary to establish and refine a protocol for the practice of the lipolysis.

Can we use lipolysis to get rid of all excess fat? Dr Catherine Goursac: The lipolysis is not a substitute for liposuction. We can not, for example, treat a large saddlebags. It is only for localized fat deposits: Banana under buttocks, flanks, around the armpits, double chin, inner knees, a small bead on the inner thighs. In general, we consider that we should not treat areas killing more than 10 cm by 10 cm. We realize sometimes treatment of the abdomen, but it is facing more resistance (10% resistance on the abdomen, only 2% on the chin, 5-6% on the inside of the knees). However, if resistance can increase the concentration of deoxycholate to obtain treatment more efficient. Note that in general, men respond better to lipolysis than women. What is the price? Dr. Catherine Goursac: This treatment is obviously not refunded. The cost of the meeting of 90? and 4-5 sessions are necessary. Compared with the classical mesotherapy, 10 to 15 sessions were required and for a different effect because mesotherapy does not break classic adipocytes. That's why we're facing all the methods of adipocyte lysis (lipolysis) because they are final.Mesotherapy uses conventional injections of stimulants microcirculation and factors of lipolysis (caffeine, buflomedil?). This technique is not effective on localized areas as is the case of lipolysis, but is on the orange peel and supermarkets. However, the next a little maintenance because the cell is not only fragmented but emptied. The current methods of breaking cells are liposuction, laser endohypodermique and phosphatidylcholine .
Whom should I contact? Dr. Catherine Goursac: You can contact the French Association of Physicians Salons (AFME) to find practitioners of this technique.www.afme.org What is the status of phosphatidylcholine? Dr. Catherine of Goursac: Phosphatidylcholine has no authorization in the market (AMM) in France. She has a status of "neither authorized nor prohibited."Phosphatidylcholine has fallen into the public domain and therefore has not licensed soon because no laboratory will go to very large sums to legalize an efficient molecule that may soon be copied. However, we can rely on many scientific publications and communications in various congresses. * Dr. Catherine Goursac practicing aesthetic medicine for over twenty years. She is a member of the French Society of Aesthetic Medicine, a member of the board of directors of the French Association of Physicians Salons (AFME) and secretary of the French Association of Anti-Aging ( www.fsaam.com ). "The anti-aging medicine," Dr. Catherine Goursac, Hellebore editions.
