Complications related to obesity are numerous. This disease is now considered a condition affecting the life expectancy in coming decades, while it increased continuously for 2 centuries.
Specifically, obesity contributes to the development of certain diseases:
- Obesity, mechanical overload of the skeleton, increases the risk of joint disease (osteoarthritis);
- Obesity, and especially abdominal obesity, promotes the onset of hypertension and diabetes;
- Obesity increases the risk of chronic respiratory failure;
- Obesity increases the risk of heart failure and vascular disease;
- Obesity increases the risk of digestive cancer;
- In women, obesity increases the risk of infertility.
