Baby feeding at 2 years

At 2 years, your child begins a varied diet. No more mashed potatoes, baby eats more and more like you! Careful though not to neglect their nutritional needs. Follow our tips to cope while feeding your young child.

Outline of feeding young children under 2 years

The precautions are substantially the same as a year :

- Eg avoid giving your baby fries, limit sugary foods, the chocolate and the soda ;
- Also avoid sweeteners that stimulate the taste for sweet baby;
- Avoid too much fat then meat and offal; 
- Continue to cook the dishes of baby fat free if possible and add extra butter or oil in small amounts (1 teaspoon per meal) before serving;
- Except for milk, the only essential beverage for young children is water;
- Always offer your child fruit and vegetables at every meal. 

What changes in your child 2 years: 

- For 18 months, your child can eat almost everything, in appropriate amounts;
- You can, from time to time, give him whole milk because its fats contain vitamins A, D and K.The milk of growth is always good for him;
- Your child has a greater need for protein. You need to slightly increase his ration of meat, fish or eggs and move to 40 g per day. You can give this ration at noon, or share it between lunch and dinner;
- The energy plan, your child needs 100 kcal / kg per day.

Breakfast baby to 2 years

His breakfast should ideally be composed of: 

- 240 ml of milk growth; 
- Cereal or bread nature or a nibble of jam, depending on his appetite.

Lunch baby to 2 years

For your child, the breakfast should include: 

- Raw vegetables cut into small dice; 
- 40 g meat, fish or eggs; 
- 150 g of carbohydrates with vegetables according to their appetite and 5 g of butter or a little oil; 
- A dairy product. Choose between a yogurt, 2 grandchildren, Swiss cheese and a 20 g soft cheese); 
- 100 g cooked or raw fruit; 
- A bit of bread.

Taste ideal baby to 2 years

The taste is an essential food for the young child. See our factsheet "The perfect snack for your child. " It must consist of: 

- 240 ml of milk or dairy products; 
- A bit of bread or 1 or 2 cookies (depending on the appetite of the child);
- 100 g cooked or raw fruit.

Dinner baby to 2 years

As the food balance is achieved in one day, call dinner depending on what your child has eaten at other meals. Promote this meal foods rich in complex carbohydrates such as pasta, rice, semolina, potatoes earth. For example: 

- 150 g of carbohydrates with vegetables according to your child's appetite and 5 g of butter or a little oil; 
- A dairy product; 
- 100 g cooked or raw fruit; 
- A bit of bread.

Equivalences useful when baby is 2 years old

Some equivalences: 

- 4 teaspoons chopped fresh mixed meat = 8 teaspoons of meat = 40 g; 
-1 = 3 dairy chipmunks = 2 large tablespoons of yoghurt cheese = 1 = 1/8th of pie 
-1 Medium fruit = 150 g; 
-1 Hazelnut butter = 5 g = a little oil = 1 teaspoon; 
-2 Tablespoons curved starch = 150 g; 
- A bit of bread = 10 to 15 grams of bread.
