FOR ALL THOSE WHO TAKE SPASFON

Forty years after its development, theSpasfon® is still used by millions of people. Mainly used to relieve intestinal disorders, the drug can alleviate theabdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea or constipation. Update on the drug outstanding.

Indications Spasfon ®

As stated on the record, the Spasfon® has four directions:
  • symptomatic treatment of pain associated with functional disorders of the gastrointestinal tract and biliary tract;
  • treatment of spasmodic and painful manifestations of acute urinary tract: renal colic;
  • symptomatic treatment of painful spastic manifestations in gynecology;
  • adjuvant treatment of contractions during pregnancy in combination with rest.

Functional bowel disorders: 5 to 20% of French

The Spasfon ® is a drug called "antispasmodic" widely prescribed in cases ofintestinal disorders. It must be said that these intestinal pain are particularly common: they affect 5 to 20% of the French. Please note that women are twice as affected as men, particularly between 30 and 50.
The functional bowel disorders are defined by abdominal pain (irritable bowel syndrome or spastic colon), bowel dysfunction such as constipation or diarrhea and bloating.
Symptoms vary greatly from one person to another and evolve over time in intensity, frequency and duration (the average duration of outbreaks is 5 days).Even if this condition is considered benign, it can affect significantly the quality of social and professional life.
Also called irritable bowel syndrome, these intestinal disorders occur without apparent cause, that is to say they are not due to injury or disease of the intestine. However, certain factors are known to promote these disorders, as a familial predisposition, dietary imbalance, low water consumption, physical inactivity, stress, anxiety or depression.

Spasfon ® and lifestyle advice

Treatment is not always easy, it is to relieve symptoms.
It is based on the prescription of antispasmodic like the famous Spasfon® and lifestyle and dietary measures, possibly combined with a laxative or retarder transit (prescribed by physician).
The lifestyle measures are dictated by the risk factors mentioned above: balanced and varied diet, drinks plentiful, regular exercise and stress reduction.Cons bloating and diarrhea, it must also avoid favoring foods (cabbage, lentils?).
Regarding Spasfon®, a new study has confirmed its effectiveness compared with placebo. Conducted during the first half of 2005 among 400 patients with episodes of pain due to intestinal problems, prescribing Spasfon ® (2 tablets three times daily for 7 days) has decreased by 50% intestinal pain in more than 62 % of patients, with a marked difference compared to placebo.
This medicine retains a prominent place in the current pharmacopoeia. Virtually devoid of side effects, it is very useful to many people that are hurting their intestines.
