HYGIENE PRACTICE: SHOULD WE BE AFRAID OF THE TOILET?

We all have fears and all uncontrollable. The anguish of the dirt is widespread.Specifically, the disgust of public toilets would be almost unanimous in women. Justified or irrational fear?
The fear of being wrong (is what I locked the door key, put the stamp on an important letter ...) and the anguish of dirt are the charts of our concerns. When we check a second time the house is locked, there is nothing to worry about. After the umpteenth time, it is an obsessional neurosis, with OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), it is said today.

Fear of microbes commonly held

No doubt the producer Howard Hughes (hatched by a mother manic hygienic) or the pianist Glenn Gould, both terrorized by microbes, suffered from obsessional neurosis. Vis-à-vis the public toilets, this fear reached its height in women. Admittedly, nobody has invented the model that would allow them to urinate standing up. Without being "fake ... quées "so far, 60% of them fear the public wawa and do not use them, according to various polls. Shame not a place that says a toilet. And what risk do we really ask them?

Land on an inert surface is dangerous?

Many women have the same reflex: hold just above the seat, thighs horizontal.Excellent for the quadriceps muscles, but tiring. There are those who empty roll of paper on the toilet to avoid contact. Those who restrain. In truth, it would be wrong not to live peacefully on the water closets (the French, a small enclosed area) because you risk nothing on this inert surface where themicrobes have no incentive to grow. Because the microbes and viruses do not jump on it like that. In the lower part of the body, they swarm, themicrobes. Billions in the gastrointestinal tract that are going to take the air at the anus. All very normal. If we were sterile, we would attack from the surrounding bacteria. Our seeds are also our defense. Everything would be so for the best in the best of worlds, and we should be able to read quietly in any office, if there was still a catch.

Dirty hands: the proven risks

We do not wash their hands enough ! Especially after coming out oftoilets. However, the hand is the preferred vehicle of transmission of allmicrobes. We leave the small corner and then sits down to eat ... Themicrobes go hands on food that we put at the mouth. In a now famous book,One washes his hands (Éditions Flammarion) Dr. Frederick Saldmann warned us. Children and adults do not wash their hands more before sitting down to eat. An oversight that can lead to severe intestinal illness. Germs from the digestive tract are dangerous staph, salmonella and shigella others, not forgetting the cholera vibrio. These resistant germs several hours, but "if you wash your hands properly!" Insists Dr. Saldmann.

Hands dirtier than the toilet seat!

Horrible: shaking the hand of a person leave the bathroom without washing their hands, you may once in three of finding this person fecal germs in your mouth! Our physician-author and a colleague, Dr. Squinazi, director of the Laboratory of Hygiene of the City of Paris, has conducted several surveys of people who shook hands with someone leaving the toilet without having rinsed his hands. Three out of four people had collected the bacteria on their hands, including Escherichia coli, fecal bacteria. The experiment was repeated, the germs are Fecal hands on the lips ... Studies of hundreds of students gave the same results in the United States.

It is not fake ... question but careful!

The concern related tohealth is normal. We are taught to the youngest age of strict rules. The shame of slopping is still a taboo, language obscures the place! We asked the hostess sinks ... The ad extols the virtues of antiseptic detergents, industrial designs clothes anti-microbial, while paradoxically, theyforget to wash their hands. Fear, ancient, useful, is a phenomenon of survival. It is his exaggeration that borders on the disease. If you do not want to sit on public toilets, do not worry: it does not deserve psychotherapy. Choose as many lavatories own anyway!
