HAIR COLORS: MORE ALLERGIES TO PARA-PHENYLENEDIAMINE

The hair dye allergies are caused by an ingredient that has so far ignored:phenylenediamine . These allergic reactions are currently in very strong growth. No wonder we're growing our hair color ! Nearly a million French are potentially affected by this intolerance

Allergy to dyes has risen sharply

This increase is not surprising because for a decade, the number of users of dyes hair flew through the roof. This mode of wanting to color his hair affects all age groups, even young people use it regularly. In Japan, for which figures are available particularly illustrative, 41% of high school very regularly stain hair , but so does 85% of women aged 20 to 30 years and 33% of men aged 20 to 30 years! In 1992 they were respectively 13%, 6% and 2%. Other changes in habits dye hair : the time between staining was significantly reduced and finally, the choice of color varies greatly from one time to another, which means that one does 'assign a color more permanently but that in changing very rapidly.

The problem of allergies

Everything would be better if the product color does not contain para-phenylenediamine, a substance well known to cause reactions allergic . Yet despite the research in this area to develop other alternative molecules, devoid of risk allergic , this remains essential ingredient in the composition of dyes hair. This is the only currently available that achieves a uniform color is not eliminated with shampoo. It shows its central role in the ingredient list of a dye product?

More than a million French are concerned!

Recently, allergy treatment centers report an increase in the number of cases of allergy -related phenylenediamine. According to extrapolations used as examples in a recent international publication, Thailand had more than one million people affected by intolerance cutaneous phenylenediamine, France about a million and Germany 1.3 million.

What are the symptoms?

When the reaction is severe, there is not to ask questions, emergency treatment is required, sometimes even hospitalization: skin reaction accompanied by mucosal edema. But in less extreme cases, the classic features are those of the immediate appearance of eczema on the face and scalp, especially pronounced at the border between hair and forehead. Such a reaction requires a consultation. The diagnostic test involves the installation of skin patches containing a low dose of para-phenylenediamine.
