CREATINE AND CANCER RISK

Creatine, a nutritional supplement "supposed" to increase the muscle mass of athletes, whose marketing is prohibited in France, continues to talk about her. The comparison of its low profits compared to the potential risks, including carcinogens, raising the possibility that this substance on the list of banned doping products to athletes.

Creatine is a nutritional supplement "supposed" to increase muscle mass and give more energy. It is very popular, wrongly or rightly, by the athletes. Consumed in broad daylight by a good number of them, its marketing is prohibited in France. However, the sale allowed in other countries and some products on the Internet called "Creatine" also containing anabolic often poses problems, not only of French athletes come to get them but some become positive control anti- doping. Furthermore, neither its safety nor efficacy have proven quite the contrary!

Suspects and limited benefits

No effect on endurance has been demonstrated, and only brief and repeated periods of high intensity for at least 15 seconds would be accompanied by muscle profits.

The risks of creatine

According to the French Agency for Food Safety (AFSSA), creatine may have a carcinogenic action. This effect is still insufficiently argued especially in the long term, but few studies have reported digestive problems, muscular and cardiovascular diseases caused by this substance. Rigorous scientific analysis are needed to confirm or disprove his suspicions deleterious.

Should I put creatine on doping list?

In an opinion on the risk assessment of creatine for the consumer, AFSSA has raised the issue of relevance to include creatine on the list established by the IOC (International Olympic Committee) processes and products dopants prohibited use in athletes. Meanwhile the scientific evidence, it seems that the precautionary principle should apply to this substance.
Based on the illegal aspect, low profits and potential carcinogenic risks of creatine, an athlete should be without it cheerfully.
