FITNESS: WHAT RISKS?

Sport gym is an activity accessible to all.At a time when anti-sedentary lifestyle in full swing, it is interesting to know the specific risks, as is the case today for most sports: tennis for tendinitis, muscle strain and sprain to soccer, etc..

Whatever age or level, the sport gym has the advantage of regular physical activity and framed. But like all sports, fitness is not totally devoid of risk, exercise may cause different types of injury (spasm, tendonitis, tears?).

The study * Fitness and Health has just set a goal to assess the frequency and nature of diseases related to physical activity in gym, but also their status at onset, risk factors and enabling factors. It was conducted using questionnaires completed by doctors, therapists, rheumatologists and patients who contracted a disease in theaters. This last population was composed of as many men than women, with an average age of 34.
Strength training is the most popular activity, before the cardio, step and aerobics. It is also associated with half of the injuries occurred indoors. The most common injuries are tendon injuries (23%) and backache (15%). The main cause is mainly the excess of activity . Followed (only reported by patients): a movement performed poorly, the use of too heavy load or lack of heating.

Another interesting fact revealed by this investigation, patients present late, on average 7 months after the occurrence of the injury and after taking a drug on their own, mostly anti-inflammatory.
The authors conclude their study by noting that the fitness-related injuries are rare and mild.

With such data, it should be possible to build a campaign of prevention and awareness among the general public. Improving security in the halls, the sedentary might be more tempted to visit regularly as gyms?
