INTERVIEW: THE PHENOMENON "COSMETIC SURGERY" (CONTINUED)

Dr. Daniel Benatar, a specialist of international renown, has written a "bible" of cosmetic surgery for the general public, in which he explains the phenomenon of "plastic surgery". What interventions are most required? What suffering, what discomfort, hide under this infatuation? What role the media play?

e-Health: What are the indications for the most practiced today?

Dr. Daniel Benatar: In terms of statistics, there is currently a very strong attraction for infiltration (Botox or other), pilling in all its forms (light, deep) and laser treatments. Acts of pure surgery "a scalpel" are represented mainly by surgery of the nose, followed by breast surgery and liposuction.

e-health: Why more and more people resort to plastic surgery? Due to a malaise, a fashion, the media environment ...?

Dr. Daniel Benatar: These three points are absolutely true. Firstly, people consult because of the finding of a physical imperfection and feel resolving their unhappiness by making it disappear. They are thus looking for a happiness that they do not master completely. Others think that change their image or make it more graceful by surgery, will give them access to a work, make more competitive , younger, etc.. But we must not forget that we are all under the pressure of publicity and there is a genuine dictatorship of beauty imposed by the media . All these messages suggest that beauty and youth are associated with the idea of competitiveness, success, love, sex, etc..
By leaving us imagine that the well-being and happiness go through this beauty and youth, the only things that allow us access to success in business, love and a life more exciting. These are errors of society , we have created and we must now assume . They put too much emphasis on external values. But once this initial contact with the outer casing is finished, it was fortunately tend to be more concerned with the entire inner value of the individual . At this time, we finally realized that beauty is not necessary. Sure to be young and beautiful is a plus, it helps both professionally and emotionally. But this only applies to the first surface contact. Human intelligence is going to do that is then searched for values more authentic and deeper .

In conclusion Dr Benatar wished to clarify that "there is no generality .Cosmetic surgery is something extremely personal. It must accurately analyze each case and for each solution, which is sometimes surgery, sometimes psychotherapy . Indeed, sometimes you know to recommend a psychiatrist or psychologist, and not go in for surgery. This is the question we always ask ourselves: the problem can be solved by surgery or is it better to psychotherapy. Should we use a scalpel or the floor to address a specific problem? "
* Dr. Daniel Benatar, internationally recognized expert in cosmetic surgery, has published four books called "bible of cosmetic surgery," first of its kind to be offered to the public in France (Editor: Isabelle Quentin).

First book: Benatar, everything about cosmetic surgery, a sort of compendium or encyclopaedia on a practice often ignored, but paradoxically increasingly sought. The other three titles are more focused on topics:
  • Cosmetic surgery in men
