SUNSCREENS FALSE

We said and we repeat, is not total protection! The consumer association UFC-Que Choisir is to sue two manufacturers of sunscreen for misleading advertising.

UFC-Que Choisir claims control and standardization of labels on sunscreen.Indeed, manufacturers avail themselves of all acronyms fancier one than the other indices of protection incomprehensible when they are not misleading and a list of terms surreal. IPD, PPD, IR, SPF 100 for acronyms, 40 UVB, 20 UVA or 60 UVA / UVB for the indices (these indices are expected to range from 5 to 100), "high protection", "display extreme protection" "Protection severe" or "sunblock" for the words ... and mix together, it became impossible to navigate.

However, it is essential to choosing the right protection. With excessive sun exposure of consumers who believe they are well protected by their sunscreen, France counts each year from 6000 to 8000 new cases of melanoma (skin cancers of the most serious), of which 1,000 are fatal.
After assigning the high court and Lierac Shisheido manufacturers for misleading advertising, this association has also decided to seize the French Agency for Sanitary Safety of Health Products (AFSSAPS) to define it very precisely labeling creams Solar for harmonization of terms and indices. The measurement methods of protection against UVA and UVB should be standardized. Que Choisir has included a proposal to give references and indexes in favor of a self assessment by consumers who simply take into account the nature of the skin, the type of exposure and sunlight.
